Danfoss Editron machines require bearing grease relubrication in regular intervals, if not otherwise specified. To check if your machine needs regular greasing, see the following requirements:
- If the machine model is EM-PMI540 or greater, it needs regular greasing.
- If the machine model is EM-PMI375 or smaller, the type code needs to be checked:
- If the type code contains option BHS (grease relubricable bearings), the machine needs regular greasing.
- If the type code doesn't have the option BHS, that means the bearings are BGL (greased for life bearings) and they don't need relubrication during their lifetime.
Relubrication interval
The maximum relubrication interval in operation is six months, but each machine type has their own recommendations which depend on their rotation speed and bearing temperature. Please check the machine model's own user guide for model specific information. Grease also need to be applied before and after long term storage.

Recommended lubricants
The bearing type for electric machine with option BHS is SKF 6214 C3 (non-insulated bearings) or SKF 6214 C3 HC5 (insulated bearing). The recommended grease type for the machine bearings is SKF LGHP-2 or equivalent. LGHP-2 is high performance, high temperature bearing grease. (For further information, see http://www.skf.com/) The amount of grease needed per relubrication is 20 g.
Instructions for bearing relubrication
- Make sure that the machine has reached its operating temperature.
- Remove the plugs from the grease escape holes.
- Open the grease nipple plugs.
- Use grease piston to enter 20 g of grease into the grease nipple.
- If possible, let the machine run approximately one hour to let the old grease exit. NOTE! It is normal if no grease exits the electric machine. This is because the cavities inside the electric machine can hold a lot of grease.
- Install the plugs on the grease nipples and on the grease escape holes.
